The Barnstonworth Rovers were formed in 1993 as a single men's team competing in the Cosmopolitan Soccer League Third Division (now Metro). In 1995 the squad won promotion to the Second Division. This led to an expansion of the club - a Reserve team was formed.
The Rovers' Reserves won the Second Division East Reserves Championship in 1999-2000 as a prelude to the club's flagship team winning the Second Division Championship and promotion to the top flight in 2000-01.
Since 2001-02 they have maintained their status in the Cosmopolitan Soccer League Division One (the top amateur division in the North-East); reached the NY State Cup Semi-Finals (2006/7) and competed in the US Open Cup (the US version of the F.A. Cup).
During the winter break of the 1996-97 season, Rovers merged with third division newcomers Chelsea International, who became Barnstonworth's Third side, playing the Third Division. They won the club's first championship in 1997-98, but elected to remain in the Third Division, and in 2006, came of age to become our second over-30s men's team. The first over-30s team was formed in 2004.
As well as being a full member of the Cosmopolitan Soccer League, the Rovers also fielded a team for a number of years in the Metrosoccer NY outdoor league - these were the 'fourths'. In 2006 they moved into the Cosmopolitan League, and at the same time created a third Over-30s team: Barnstonworth Rovers Premier.
The first Rover Women's team was assembled in the summer of 1997 and they compete in New York's Metropolitan League; a second team, known as R2D2, was formed in 2005.
The women's team now represent the club in the First and Second division of the league, and the top side was the first to represent Barnstonworth in a State Cup Final (2005).
Suffice to say, being the largest adult amateur soccer club in Manhattan, we have lots of teams playing across the city.
