Results: Firsts 9/14/08 vs Central Park Rangers

Barnstonworth Rovers F.C. 3 Central Park Rangers 2
The season could not have started sweeter for the Rovers: A winning goal in added time, while playing with 10 men, against their arch-rivals in first local derby of the season. CPR had leveled the score with a very soft penalty in the 85th min, and only after a retake was ordered when Broach saved the first attempt ! In the ensuing protests George received 2 yellow cards and was sent off to reduce the Rovers to 10 men.
Yet the Rovers showed incredible resolve, come down the pitch, Jordi won a challenge strode deep on the right, put in a perfect cross to the far post, where Oren on debut lunged and poked the ball past the CPR goal line. Rovers 3-2 !
The Rovers opened the scoring when Fonzi, got the ball on top of the box, and fired a bullet to the far post. Rovers 1-0.
CPR countered towards the end of the half, when a rebound in the box was poked in from close range. Rovers 1-1.
But the Rovers were making all the running and finally they were rewarded. Pugli rose above all and headed a Colin restart, only to be surprised when the CPR keeper parried the ball. The linesman though was well placed and signaled the ball had crossed the line awarding the Rover strike. Rovers 2-1.
And it all seemed to be rolling along for the Rovers 3 points, until the 85th min. A CPR midfielder hit a ball towards the goal, George, who had come on as a defensive substitution, blocked the ball, the ref decided illegally with his hand and awarded a penalty. CPR’s #5 place the ball, and confidently struck it on the outside of the post ! Rovers joy lasted only a few seconds as the ref whistled for a retake !! as he saw players from both team encroaching in the area prior to the kick @?@ The CPR converted on the 2nd attempt, and when George was awarded another yellow card prior to the restart, they believed they could take all 3 points. Rovers 2-2.
They did not count on the Rover’s quality, spirit and determination, and the strike in added time set the record straight.
