BOB – 1 Argo Silver – 1

So a week after working incredibly hard to overcome the league leaders and put ourselves in contention for the title, we failed to capitalize on our momentum and put in a lackluster performance against the perennially mediocre Argo Silver. Argo have somehow managed to maneuver themselves into 3rd place, but they are a fairly average team that we should beat every day of the week and twice on Sundays (once they’re finally ready to kick-off).
The game’s two goals came from defensive lapses. Bazza latched onto to a poor clearance in the 1st half which left the keeper stranded and slotted home from the top of the box. The equalizer came very fortuitously early in the 2nd half – a pass inside from Dom at right back found the middle ground between Rocco at sweeper and the Argo striker. Rocco did well to get there first, but his sliding clearance only ricocheted off the forward and snuck inside the near post. “Lucky” does not adequately describe it.
As the better team, we should have shrugged the goal off and gone on to win it, but the cohesion of the previous week just wasn’t there. We had 2 or 3 very good chances to finish it off late on, but we were careless with our opportunities in front of goal, and only have ourselves to blame for not bagging the win.
With Tesoro returning to winning ways, the destination of the league title has once again been wrested from our hands unless we can make up a large goal difference deficit. That battle will start in earnest next Sunday when we come up against the division’s whipping boys RTG. Anything but a comprehensive dicking will be unacceptable.
