Old Boys report 4/26/09 by Dave Sheeran

BOB – 1 Shamrocks – 4
The Shamrocks continued to play the role of spoiler in the title race, by taking full advantage of the Old Boys’ poorest performance in living memory, and handed us our first league loss of the season. Pending Tesoro’s result from Sunday (in arbitration) we could well be 4 points back with 3 games to go. We play them in a must-win game this coming weekend.
It started badly last Sunday with an 8am kick-off, and as you all know it was already bloody hot. It never really improved. Shamrocks scored from an early corner – their striker muscling his way past Greg and powering a header into the corner, despite Rocco’s attempt to keep it out. Sheero back in goal after a couple of months out through injury showed his rustiness by staying on his line when the cross was only about 6 yards out.
We struggled to find our rhythm, which has rarely eluded us this season, and Shamrocks continued to punish our sloppiness. Their 2nd & 3rd goals came directly from Barnstonworth mistakes, so by the time Unmackers rounded their keeper to get one back, we’d already pretty much handed the game to the opposition. And despite some sustained Rovers pressure late in the game, we had time to gift them a 4th goal from another corner.
Promotion is still entirely within our grasp, but it would be so much more satisfying to win the division. A win on Sunday would get us a lot closer to that goal.
BOB: Sheero, Rocco, Greg, Billy, Dominator, Josh, Jeff, Bazza, Chip, Colin, Negro, Luxury, Unmackers
