Barnstonworth Premier o'30s 2 NY Dinamo o'30s 3
Nedgy Nazon 30'; Nedgy Nazon 35'
Strength in numbers was looking to be the theme of the day as we had lots of subs while Dinamo had only one or two. But it was Dinamo who were able to lift it in the second half when they needed to. We were playing with a 2-1 lead well into the second half when Dinamo scored two goals in a 5 minute span to take the lead and deal us our second league loss of the season.
They started brightly testing the waters with long range shots. The opening goal came from an errant pass across the middle that was intercepted and sent wide to their speedy right winger. He looked to have pushed the ball too far and Kevin pounced but somehow he just got a foot to it to give Dinamo the early lead. Dinamo had a few other chances go begging before Rovers turned things around. First it was Kendall who beat two or three players before crossing to Nedgy for the shot from close range. The next goal was a thing of beauty. Nedgy received the ball with his back to goal, 5-10 yards outside the box. He fed Marlon, who had made a perfectly timed run across the box. Marlon took the ball to the byline and returned the ball back to Nedgy who first-timed his shot to give Rovers the 2-1 lead they took into halftime.
The second half started well for Rovers who maintained their first half momentum. Dinamo had some forays forward but nothing too dangerous while Rovers had a few efforts themselves. But as the half wore on, Dinamo gained more and more possession and started threatening Rovers from all sides. Their #9 playmaker was always going to be the dangerman, even if you knew he had no right foot to speak of. He had narrowly missed in the first half, but when he got his opportunity in the second half, he made no mistake drilling a laserbeam 20 yard shot to the upper 90 at Kevin's near post. Their third goal came not 5 minutes later when their right winger again found some space inside the box, from where he drove a hard low shot to the far post. Kevin got a hand to it but it was not enough. 3-2 Dinamo. The final 10-15 minutes saw the Rovers regain composure and we were unlucky to not equalize on Marlon's agonizingly close effort and Peter's long range free kick. It must also be said that Pompey, usually a winger, had his best game all season while playing in the middle of the park. He looked like Michael Essien out there, winning a very high percentage of tackles and effectively spraying the ball around to fellow Rovers.
Assuming Pele Masters took down the Croats, we're now level on points with them while Pele enjoy the goal difference advantage. Three league matches remain against the mid-table Brooklyn Italians and Greek Americans and the last regular season game against Pele Masters.
Squad: Kevin, Robedinho, Carl, Andy, Will, Jazzy, Peter, Lex, Mo, Pompey, Adrian, Nedgy, Marlon, Kendall, Duane, Maurice
