Result: Firsts 4/26/06 vs Polonia (a)

Polonia S.C. 3 Barnstonworth Rovers F.C. 0

Its always difficult to beat a team 3 times in a season. The Rovers affected by the heat and missing players, could not duplicate last week’s performance and fell, easily, to Polonia 3-0. Polonia, unbeaten at home before the Rovers knocked them out of the cup, were this week the more effective team. The Rovers started with too defensive a posture, allowing the Poles to dominate possession and play to unfold largely in the Rovers half. Missing their link, the Rovers reverted to counter-attacking rather than sustained pressure.
The Poles took the lead midway through the 1st half in an exquisitely finished chipped. Rovers 0-1.
The Rovers responded with Oren crossing from the byline but just behind Andy and then a few minutes later, to the far post just over Pugli’s head. Pugli received a deflected pass inside the box, but after he turned his finish was too weak to really test the keeper.
The second half, the sudden heat taking its toll on the pace of the match, the Rovers rebalance in a 4-4-2, were in the ascendancy. Andy beat a couple of defenders, cut into the middle near the penalty spot, but shot barely wide. Oren again went deep from Einar, he cut inside but his effort was well saved. Then disaster struck. An errant back pass towards Broach was easily read, intercepted and slotted home. Rovers 0-2.
Polonia took control and as the Rovers pushed up for a goal that never came, they found a lot of space on the counter. First another nice chip hit the Rover bar, and a speculative shot was deflected on to the post. Finally Polonia got their 3rd to end the match.
The defeat leaves the 1sts to fight for their division spot vs Froscinone.
