Lady Rovers 1: 6 Central Park Randers Ladies: 1
After a very good start of the year, game 3 could have proved a turning point for Rovers 1 with the loss on injury of KG and Courtney, both pillars of the team. The depth and resources of the Rovers this year however helped us stop the curse and with the late addition of Liz and Andi to the team, the ladies marched on, win after win.
This week only, Rovers 1 scored no less than 10 goals in 2 games.
First, on Tuesday, Rovers 1 beat Rovers 2 in the first ever Rovers Ladies derby in first division. The final score of 4-1 did not do justice to a great performance by both teams which saw Rovers 2 come back to the score to 2-1 just before half time and push Rovers 1 all the way to the last minute in search of an extra goal.
Then on Sunday, Rovers 1 comfortably won 6-1 against CPR Red, a team that so far this year was third in the table. The game was just too good to be described in a few sentences. While the top scorer of the game award goes to Abby with 3 realizations, the goal of the day goes to Shannon who managed to both gun and curl the perfect free kick around a wall of 5 players (just ask Stavros who witnessed it).
With 23 goals scored and 5 goals against, Rovers 1 is the winner of the half season, best offense (the 5 top scorers of the league so far are all Rovers), best defense, and is 2 points ahead of the closest contender, Vendaval. The defense of Rovers' title start now with a State Cup game against Vendaval this weekend which would mean a direct ticket to the semi-finals (the winner gets a bye in the next round) and the first Spring league game on November 22d.
