Old Boys report 11/1/09 - Cup Rd 1 - by Sheero

BOB – 7 BW Gottschee – 0

The Old Boys strolled into the 2^nd round of the state cup with a clinical and dominating performance against a poor Gottschee team. We were once again cursed by the non-appearing referee and even though Gottschee were the home team, they couldn’t provide a replacement so we had to – Scooby manfully jumped into the breach.

The first half started fairly evenly, but any Gottschee opportunities were easily snuffed out – I had one save of note to make. Once we got our noses in front – a header from Colin (man of the match in the middle of the park) – it was a blur of goals with Joel, Magnus, Steve and Jeff all tallying. So it was effectively over as a contest before half time. Predictably, the second half was a little more subdued, but we continued to play some excellent flowing football – at one point Rocco turned to me and said “It’s just like Brazil”. The scoring was completed by Josh and Magnus with his second.

Good to see us put away a poor team with ease, which hasn’t always been the case. Big thanks to Scooby, Dom and Lordy for putting in the refereeing shifts – always a thankless task.
