Results: R2D1 3/21/10 vs Vendaval

R2D1: 1 Vendaval 2

Sunday was an emotional day for R2D2 as it was the last game of our captain Bridget, who is on her way this week to Chicago where we hear she has already found a team who will be lucky to have her. The scenery for the occasion was perfect as the view from the new "Bushwick inlet" field in Williamsburg is absolutely stunning. The field itself is pretty nice if a bit short and narrow, and if you ever play there, bring lots and lots of balls at the fences are extremely low…
Playing Vendaval, the no2 in the League, is always a challenge and doing it without any subs makes it even harder. A lot could be said about this game but we'll remember that R2 gave it all and move, fighting tooth and nails till the last second of the game and nearly, so very nearly stealing 2 points. For 65 minutes, thanks to an incredible performance by Emily in goal we not only held our won but had 2 very serious chances to score including a brilliant header from Mary H playing her first game as a striker (instead of defensive line). At 1-0 we got back in the game and a splendid collective action down the left side ended up with the perfect cross which Abbey volleyed in for a great equalization. Sadly though, with 10 minutes left a wave of attacks from a Vendaval team which was decided on not giving up any point got the best of our energy and a second goal was conceded just minutes from the end. Sometimes the manner counts more than the results and yesterday, Rovers 2 players all went home with a smile on their face and a tear in their eye.

We'll miss you Bridget.
