Results: Firsts 4/22/10 vs Stan Meilec (A)

Stan Meilec 1 Barnstonworth Rovers 1

McCarren Park Thursday night matches have not been the Rovers best venue. But playing relegation threatened albeit much improved Stan Meilec, they would have marked 3 points in their schedule. In a match that mirrored the Rovers - Croatia encounter the Firsts dominated proceedings but simply could not find break the game. Their effort, desire and work rate improved and the Rovers clearly deserved the 3 points. In a first half that saw the ball only reach the Rovers 18een twice, the interval found them trialing 1-0.
Stan Meilec's forward latched on a through ball down the middle of the Rover centre backs, and he raced on to beat Ben for the surprise scoreline. Rovers 0-1.
This time tough the Rovers determination paid off within 5 minutes of the restart. Jordi his a bullet direct free kick through the wall and to the bottom corner past the sprawling pole keeper. Rovers 1-1.
It,again, seemed inevitable the Rovers would go on and win it. They created chances, a far post Pugli try, Ajene from inside the 18een and Colin's effort that was very well parried. Jordi broke through on the right and he blasted it at the near post only for the effort to be saved. The Rovers poured men forward as Meilec tired, constantly overlapping and getting deep, but the finish eluded them. The final whistle saw the Rovers drop another unexpected 2 points.
